Merry Christmas! We are only a few days away from my favorite holiday of the year. I know, it’s like everyone’s fave, but I have a lot of really good reasons.
Thanksgiving, no Halloween, is truly when I start getting excited for the Christmas season, because December is a big month for me. I have a birthday this month, and the day after that is the anniversary of my relationship with my one and only. Two magnificent and monumental days right next to each other is sometimes too much happiness to handle.
But there is more! Our wonderful dog Mika has a birthday a week later and before you know it, it’s all days off work and enjoying the best foods and memories with family and friends.
December is also the birthday month of my late Grandpa Louis, and I still think about him every year during this season. When I was little, we always had joint birthday parties. Imagine a small blonde-haired child who wanted kittens for her birthday, celebrating with an elderly man who enjoyed talking about the coming spring’s planting season. We had fun 🙂
Grandpa and I always reveled in sharing our birthdays, because I was actually supposed to be born on his, but imagine, I was just too excited to see the world and came a few days early.
Additionally, my family has a kind of treaty with Wisconsin weather. Snow is not allowed to stick until after my birthday. It usually works out between us.
For me, December is amazing. I get to celebrate all of the best things in my life in a matter of weeks. I love it.
However, after all of the amazing things I get to do and receive in December, I try to put myself out there to do some giving to others. Nothing brings me greater joy than giving a gift people truly love and want to use.
Giving is a big deal for me. When this time of year comes around, I try to think about the charitable giving I have done over the year, and usually decide there is something more that I can do. This year, I read a news article that the Salvation Army is not meeting their collection goals. This inspired me to send them a last minute donation, and I would encourage you to do the same. (Here is a link to the one I donated to: http://bit.ly/2hcdwSK)
The Salvation Army is based in the love of God, and does all it can to donate funds to local families in need in the form of food pantries, emergency services and many other forms of goodness.
If you take a moment, look into your life and find something that is important to you, find it in your heart to donate to their mission. Make December as amazing for you as it is for me!
Much love and Merry Christmas!
